SPARKED NEW THINKING IN TRANSDUCER DESIGN
Multiple transducers can be utilized in an ultrasound examination.
To simplify the use of changing transducers through an examination, I initiated a concept to have a “Modular Transducer” consisting of a common handle with multiple “heads.” The key was to create a design where the “heads” could be easily changed, one-handed, without losing the natural momentum of the examination.
Ergonomics is a fundamental component to making this successful since the gripping of the handle needs to work for a variety of transducer functions; rotating, pushing, dragging, etc.
The connector is a pivotal component since it must be automatically initiated to quickly and reliably connect many elements at once. A powered version of the “quick-connect” from the Ultrasound Catheter product was the envisioned approach.
This concept combined with other modular ideas were utilized for patents that I received for innovative approaches for future transducer designs.
